The article pretty much says it all. The Notches are coming. Looks like Nubia will be joining them.

It's ridiculous that all or most of the OEMs are jumping on that bandwagon. The new Huawei P20 Pro gives you an option to use a notch or not. But of course Huawei is deliberately withholding that phone from the US market. Meaning you can't even get it on Amazon. Plus there is an app to hide the notch.

Given the recent FCC actions to potentially exclude companies like Huawei and ZTE from any US governement dollars in the network space (https://www.cnet.com/news/huawei-dealt-blow-loses-best-buy-as-smartphone-laptop-smartwatch-retailer/), the dropping of Huawei at Best Buy (https://www.cnet.com/news/huawei-dealt-blow-loses-best-buy-as-smartphone-laptop-smartwatch-retailer/), the dropping of Huawei at Verizon & AT&T (https://www.cnet.com/news/huawei-dealt-blow-loses-best-buy-as-smartphone-laptop-smartwatch-retailer/), it is a real question as to whether they want to make the effort to try and penetrate the US market any longer. The P20 Pro looks like a gorgeous phone and it has the highest rated camera ever at DxO Mark, breaking the 100 point mark for the first time (https://www.dxomark.com/huawei-p20-pro-camera-review-innovative-technologies-outstanding-results/) The failure to have adults in positions of power these days means we just can't have nice things. :(

Nubia's notch is pretty close to Essential's notch. While I hate notches, I would definitely make exceptions if it results in very minimal bezels which is the case here.

What needs to disappear are the notches with a large chin bezel. If there's a notch, there shouldn't be a chin,

I actually kind of like the Essential Phone notch.. The notch doesn't take up much of the screen and you can you can even pull down the quick settings over the notch.....so the notch screen area is still active and useful

Both my kids recently moved from Axon 7's to Essential Phones. At barely over $300 for a NIB phone on eBay they were too good to pass up. One of our A7s had a bad camera and the other had a screen that glitched out regularly, so it was time for them to be moved on from. I was hoping to go to the Axon 8/9/17 or whatever it is going to be called, but we ran out of waiting time...

@louisd can I be one of your kids. 😂 They get some very nice phones.

Does it change your mind that the younger one carrier an Axon M for 3 months before he begged to go back to his A7?

If you purchased your A7s new from ZTE or authorized dealer, they should still be covered under the 2 yr warranty. I would definitely try to do a claim on them, especially if they're not even being used anymore and replaced by another device, so you wouldn't be inconvenienced by waiting times.

That's a good point. One was purchased on launch day from ZTE, the one with the camera problem. I'll reach out to support.

@coldheat06, I'm with you on this. I really like the Essential hardware.

I guess I am the minority but a notch would not bother me. The top edge of the screen is normally taken up by the notification bar already so it is not like I would miss the space.

I read this morning the OnePlus 6 will have software that blacks out the sides of the notch for the folks that don't like it. It will be software that you can turn off and on.
