ZTE OTA servers are offline

ZTE OTA servers are offline

I have tried to check for OTA update
now and result is Network unavailable.

This could mean:
1.) They will remain offline
2.) Maybe they come back online
3.) Or maybe they prepare the Oreo update?

Every couple of days, I check for updates (Settings > System update), and today I get "Network unavailable". Now I've tried via cellular, WiFi, soft reset, hard reset, etc, and still get the same error. Now the odd thing is, in the back of my mind, I'm pretty sure this has happened before, just before an update has been released. Anyone else experiencing the same? I'm running B35 on the A2017U on Three in the UK

    @5tevej
B35 is the latest software update for the A2017U , there is no Oreo update at the moment.

As soon there is a NEW OTA you'll see the announcement here in Z-Community.

I'm aware B35 is the latest, and I'm also aware there's no Oreo update at present. But what I'm saying is the failure in getting "...latest software..." outcome when I check for updates I'm pretty sure was a precursor to an imminent update being made available previously. Coincidentally, the beta has now been closed...

Unlikely good news. All update servers (regardless of device) are unavailable, as well as any manual support image downloads are gone.

    Put a fork in it...

Not a positive sign. If it stays this way for 24+ hours this may be a sign Google is abiding by the ban on Android software until it can be worked out.

Luckily device still says certified in Play Store. Hopefully that doesn't get revoked.

@westside80 look people are gonna post this stuff it's the ZTE forums! The company may get **** but the support will still be needed from us. So we can't get mad or assume everyone will know this! I had a feeling this would happen but not everyone else so let's just offer the support and you explain why they're down lol.

I don't care why they're down. Know why? Because there's no updates available at this time! If the servers were up it wouldn't make no difference. Still not gonna be any updates. So I don't see the big deal. If ZTE gets shut down do you really think they're still going to support their devices? How exactly would they do that if they can't use Google Play Services?? Riddle me that.

For us who have already updated, yeah, it doesn't matter, but for some people who don't know about the current situation it's not ideal because ZTE devices are still for sale and people are still buying them. Chances are the device on the shelf could be a software version behind, and now they have no way to update.

Probably wouldn't have been updated anyway, even with the servers up. Let's be real. Also, stores still selling ZTE products should be fined or something. How can you sell a product from a company that's currently banned?

Gotta clear that existing stock. They aren't banned from selling them to unsuspecting customers who may be stuck with a device with no support going forward. Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy, MVNOs like Cricket, main carriers like ATT, etc...all are still selling them regardless of the ban. At least they could have got the latest bug fixes if the servers were up.

Maybe...they usually do posts here on the Community when an update is available under normal circumstances, but no idea if they plan to announce anything to the community if the ban sticks.

Why would they tell us anything? We're only 'their Community." There's not been a soul from ZTE mention anything here since the ban began. Why would they now? ZTE has went ghost on this forum. The only ones keeping it alive are us regular ole community members.

I am the opinion they will share something when there is something to share when all the details are filled in. Your opinion may differ, but there are ZTE employees who job is this community and it's growth but they can't say anything in regards to this situation right now

Well, then they're failing at their job. That's only my opinion of course. All the news in this community has come from the media, not from the Mods or ZTE. No special treatment here. Only around 10% to 20% of the community is active and it's getting fewer and fewer. Even the people assigned a volunteer position in this community hardly ever comment or contribute to the community.

Having met them personally, I wouldn't call it failing. As with any job, there are situations where you can't share information until given permission to do so. This is one of those situations. I am sure people in China are calling all the shots, and there is a cultural difference on how things are handled. One of the things I personally know ZTE USA struggles with sometimes.

There are no Evan Blass/evleaks surprise posts happening here from second accounts created by people in the know.

As for the ZTE Community mods, I am not sure they are any more aware than we are on the details. Perhaps they were given instructions to hold off on posts until the details are worked out. No idea, and even though I know some of them, I am not going to message them on the side trying to get information out of them. This is a difficult situation for the community staff, and the mods, and I respect they don't need me bugging them for information.

A lot of the decrease in the community is that the A7 is getting pretty long in the tooth and that was one of the devices that really attracted people to the community. The Axon M brought about a lot of new people. I see new people signing up all the time, some just don't post or post very little.

Your opinion may differ based on your experiences, but I am sticking with mine.
