I thought this would be an interesting read and do have some relevance for our smartphones.
There was a tweet where a top NFL draft pick was "taking a hit" off a bong through a gas mask. Which ended up costing him upwards of $13 million. That draft picks Twitter account was allegedly hacked just minutes before the draft began, making his ranking from the first round to thirteenth swift, decisive, and very costly. Then his Instagram account was hacked displaying screenshots implicating rule-breaking that will likely end up in an investigation.
This has a lesson for the rest of us.
We know from the headlines, that people don’t manage their passwords. Users fail to create strong passwords and they certainly don’t change their passwords once they’re set. Even though their sensitive data, potentially embarrassing situations, or marriage is at stake. Hackers don't even choose secure passwords.
Still a good amount of people don't know how to create a strong password, due to frustration or just don't care. It's proven by a list of the most commonly used passwords, complied by security researchers. Here are the top 10 passwords researchers found from leaked data distributed publicly online.
It includes simple passwords, like 123456 (the all-time favorite), password, and qwerty. Lower in the list is another favorite, iloveyou (#19), along with trustno1 (#57), which is ironic being on a most popular passwords list.
There is no better time to get passwords under control. Follow these tips to keep your passwords strong and safe:
"Now, you may think that leaked passwords alone aren’t critical – however, about 50% of leaked passwords included an email attached to the account,” said Avast researcher Michal Salat. “We know that people use the same email and password combination on different accounts. So if a hacker knows your Ashley Madison password, they will also know your password for Facebook, Amazon, eBay, etc."

It amazes me that people really feel that no one will guess those passwords. I have also seen people repeatedly use their names as p/w and it drives me crazy. Why even bother...
Most times I would suggest keeping your dirty laundry in the hamper. If we have nothing to hide then it will never be seen. However I do understand the critical importance of security and passwords. Where I struggle like many is tying to keep track of the many different passwords even if you put them in a locker that can still be tapped. Any good resolve or did I miss it???
Guilty!!!! 12345......
That's the problem I find is keeping track of all the passwords some are just different because they need a capital letter here and there or need to shorter or longer than one you normally use. Then some need you to periodically change your password for security reasons and you cant remember which one you are currently using lol
Yep,frustrated and lost. How do we keep up with or possibly move ahead of those who are out to attack us? Sorry, late response darn cold got me. Miserable yesterday. All this shall soon pass... I hope!
(no worries) We just have to be diligent on our end as much as possible and take some satisfaction in knowing that the Police and Banks have us covered in the fraud department.
Diligence, it continues to get more difficult to hear that word. I like words like temporal, or sedate, how about ahhhh, no one uses those anymore!!!!
Ahhhhhh Yes, you are correct. Hearing these words give me such a temporal joy and take me out of a sedated state of mind. (how's that) lol
Thankfully ZTEs Axon 7 should help those of you who hate using password buy taping into Googles native fingerprint support the Axon 7 should allow password lockers and other great tools for those of you who cant / dont like long passwords lol
